What is a Wildcard SSL certificate?
A Wildcard SSL certificate (*) allows you to secure an unlimited number of subdomains with a single certificate. It is an optimal solution for anyone who hosts or manages multiple sites or pages that exist under the same domain.The base certificate covers all additional subdomains you may add in the future.
Unlike a Standard SSL certificate which is issued only for a fully qualified domain name, for example www.yourdomain.com, meaning it can only be used to secure the exact domain it was issued for, a Wildcard SSL certificate is issued for *.yourdomain.com, where the asterisk (*) represents all possible subdomains.
Wildcard SSL is an option available for OV or DV SSL certificates.
